About UT Modern Jive

Modern Jive is a style of partner dance derived from Swing, Lindy Hop, Salsa, Tango, and other forms of ballroom dance. The benefit of Modern Jive, however, is that it has simplified footwork and works with practically any type of music. This means that you will be up and dancing after only once lesson and can show off your new moves wherever there is a dance floor.

Other common names for Modern Jive are Ceroc, Le Roc, Cosmopolitan Jive, and French Jive. Modern Jive is relatively new to Toronto, but is hugely popular in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.

Message from Andre de Groot,  founder of the UT Modern Jive Dance Club:

I became addicted to Ceroc dancing back in New Zealand. It is the easiest partner dance for beginners to learn, while at the same time giving experienced dancers lots of ways to have fun. Its simplified footwork is both easy to learn and frees it from being tied to just one dance style. I love the way Modern Jive can be adapted to any music and any style, giving dancers a freedom to express themselves that just isn’t available in other types of dance.

There is no Ceroc Toronto group. Ceroc is a franchise business with groups paying to use the name. Since Toronto is far away from the centre of the Ceroc kingdom, we decided to make up our own Toronto Modern Jive group instead. Growing Modern Jive dancing in Toronto is all about investing time in our members. This is what we are doing each and every week!
